Sports Injuries & Rehabilitation

Sporting injuries vary from muscle strains, ligament sprains to joint pain and inflammation. They can occur due to direct trauma to the area, or as a result of repetitive use such as gripping, turning and twisting.

Typical examples of the most commonly treated injuries include:

  • Ankle sprain
  • Knee sprain
  • Shoulder and wrist ligament sprains
  • Quadricep strain
  • Calf strain
  • Hamstring and adductor/groin strain
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Golfers Elbow
  • Runners Knee

Following a full assessment of the injured area, a treatment plan is devised to reduce swelling, reduce pain, and improve muscle / joint function and mobility. This is achieved using a combination of manual therapy techniques and a home care programme which promotes healing, aids return of normal function and strength, and hence a return to sport.

Rehabilitation

Sport and general rehabilitation is based on an established and growing body of research that spans several hundred thousand research papers across the disciplines of medicine, rehabilitation, pathology, physiotherapy, bio mechanics, physiology, sports science and more.

In sports rehabilitation the aim is to create a speedy return to competition \ sport whilst retaining general fitness.

Our rehabilitation process uses a holistic approach placing the patient at the centre of their own care, and is guided by the stage of injury and the end goal of optimal recovery. It also plays a large part in both the process of pre and post operative surgeries, for example, knee and hip replacement, ACL injury, ankle, shoulder or spinal injuries.

We will recommend a strengthening and mobility program to suit the patients needs, and an agreed exercise plan which firstly aims to regain mobility, and then to strengthen the injured area and enable a return to active sport or general activity.

A home based program to encourage the patient to play an active role in their recovery, and where relevant a recommendation using sports equipment or accessories, can also be advised by our therapist.
